Monday Reading is my weekly recommendation of something I’ve found thought-provoking or fascinating. Sometimes it is about something I have read. Sometimes it is about television or food or music or projects I care about supporting. Sometimes I do not send it on Monday. Please share with anyone who might like the vibes!!
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about some of my favorite things that look like other things. A grateful member of my public has demanded more, and I will not deny her. Here are five six seven more perfect examples, with things that look like food strongly represented. Good luck out there, desperados.
Nose pencil sharpener, 3 (assorted skin tones) for $6.96
Marries the image of the finger picking boogers with the movement required to sharpen a pencil.
Citrus pill box, 3 for $6.99
The pills are the seeds. The pills are the seeds!!!!! You press the button in the center and it advances the “segments” and you flip open a little door and get your pills out. I found one of these at a thrift store in rural Illinois and it was one of the greatest moments of my entire 2022. (I was diagnosed with cancer twice in 2022.)
Fishs Eddy did one of these for West Elm that I prefer, but it’s not available anymore.
Cassette tape phone case, $59 (with many cheaper alternatives, obviously)
What makes this so good is that a smartphone that looks like a cassette tape can also, like a cassette tape, play music.
Bread lamp, $210 (but various cheaper versions elsewhere!)
This is so stupid, why is it so stupid and so good???
Banana Hanukkah menorah, $150
I know Hanukkah is almost over, but the eight crazy nights come once a year. You can buy it in silver or brass, but why would you?
Areaware diamond jewelry box, $15.99
I bought one of these about ten years ago and still have it. They’re discontinued, but a couple of eBay sellers seem to have some deadstock. (You can also order it from this shop in the Netherlands, I guess.) (Areaware is also having a warehouse sale with other cute housewares, like this clip that looks like a pinching thumb and forefinger.)
